VPN on the router to ExpressVPN, routing specific devices through the VPN I've futzed with hardware and rigging devices before, but now I have better things to do with my time, so I'd like something that stands up and stays up.Ĭurrently around 50 devices connected (mix of IoT, NAS, and general purpose compute I need something that's small, low power and fanless. The current router is an Asus-Merlin 86U, but after several iterations I find it gets unreliable and corrupts the flash drive used for application storage.
I'm networking a small home that uses 3 wifi access points. Qotom Q330G4 8RAM/16DRV ($310) - Cheaper, but slightly less horsepower than the Protectli, hardware not selected specifically for pfsense (/dp/B074XNYHL4) Protectli FW4B 8RAM/120DRV ($370) - Expensive, plenty of horsepower Netgate 2100 ($300) - bigger RAM, might be nice for my VPN / adblocking needs Netgate 1100 ($180) - cheapest, uses purpose built hardware, unsure if it has the horsepower I'm upgrading from an Asus-Merlin setup for my home network and need advice on hardware for my use case.
